Iconic Sydney International Aquatic Centre Expansion Key to Hosting Sydney 2000 Olympic Games
Capturing the overwhelming appetite to see the Aussies swim for gold, Studio.SC added an enormous 9000 additional seats to the existing structure for the 10-day event.

The Sydney International Aquatic Centre was completed in 1994 and one of the key ingredients in the success of Sydney’s Bid to host the Olympic Games for Australia in the Year 2000. To make it fit for an event of this scale, Studio.SC was engaged to expand the existing structure of the Sydney International Aquatic Centre to maximise the seating capacity.

Studio.SC used cutting-edge 3-dimensional visualisation and sightline analysis to unlock seating opportunities, increasing the existing venue's capacity by an additional 9000 seats. This allowed more people to witness one of the most historic sporting events in Australian history, where the Sydney International Aquatic Centre was the stage for 21 of Australia’s medal tally, taking home 6 Gold, 9 Silver and 6 Bronze medals.

The massive structure was fully repurposed, later reassembled as Wollongong North Stand as creative sustainability in the days before energy rating schemes.
