We are proud to share The Australian War Memorial New Entrance and Parade Ground has been awarded the National Award for Heritage at the AIA National Architecture Awards held in Canberra last night.

"The Australian War Memorial New Entrance and Parade Ground exemplifies excellence in public architecture, delivering a respectful and innovative enhancement to one of Australia’s most revered commemorative spaces. “The project seamlessly integrates new facilities with the existing heritage architecture, achieving a careful balance between memory and modernity. The extension enriches visitor experiences, reconfiguring the journey through the memorial while adding functional spaces including a lecture theatre, multi-purpose function room, and generous gathering areas for tours and school groups."

Through a balance of a diligent, pragmatic response to a tight and highly regulated brief, with bold moves such as the introduction of the oculus, Studio SC has respectfully solved functional challenges while creating dramatic, moving spaces. The architect’s sensitivity to the site’s historical and cultural significance is evident in their careful selection of materials and incorporation of sustainable design principles.

This inspiring extension not only honours past sacrifices but also revitalizes the memorials’ role for future generations, reaffirming its place in the heart of the nation - Jury Citation

Congratulations to our client, the Australian War Memorial, for their vision and support. Kane Constructions for delivering the project with care, craftsmanship and collaboration; and to the many contributors who made it possible. Thank you to the core Studio.SC team Ornella Bucceri, Emma Leckie, Edward Salib, Nicholas Bandounas and Doug Southwell - and to everyone else who played a part along the way.
