Studio.SC Sydney: The Story Behind 155 Clarence Street

A short documentary explores how Studio.SC Sydney made 155 Clarence Street its home.

For Studio.SC Director Nicholas Bandounas, the building carried a long personal connection. Remembering its Art Deco character, history and distinctive mushroom columns, he recalls the moment it came back into view during the studio search: “This is the building I’ve always wanted to be in.”

The opportunity came with a challenge. Rather than accept a standard office fitout, Studio.SC set out to create a studio that felt more connected to the way the team works: through quiet focus, project conversations, material exploration, client meetings, shared meals and the informal moments that bring people together.

Created in collaboration with Geyer Valmont, the fitout was delivered within a tight timeframe and shaped around three key ideas: the collaboration space as the design hero, the kitchen as the social anchor, and the central communal table as the social heart.

As Nick reflects, “great design is never about adding more. It's about understanding what matters most, then creating a space that supports the people who use it every single day.”

The result is a warm, purposeful and genuinely lived-in studio, one the team has quickly made its own.
