Adaptive Re-Use & Addition
A thriving city balances economic vitality, sustainability, and inclusivity, seamlessly weaving infrastructure and governance to support urban prosperity. North Sydney CBD exemplifies this vision, with the Victoria Cross Metro Station catalyzing a wave of development.
Amidst the growth, 20 Berry Street stands out as a testament to adaptive reuse. Once a dated 1970s commercial tower, it’s being transformed into a modern, sustainable hotel. By choosing reinvention over demolition, we conserve resources, reduce waste, and preserve the structure’s embodied energy - an approach that aligns with Holmark's sustainability targets.
The design pays homage to the area’s architectural heritage with a striking brick façade, harmonizing with local landmarks while introducing contemporary features. This project not only revitalizes an aging building but also contributes to the city’s dynamic future, supporting a vibrant 18-hour economy and a “Live, Stay, Work & Play” ethos.
Studio.SC and client Holdmark are super excited to see this project progress and set the benchmark for Adaptive Re-Use.
