This is part three of Studio. SC's involvement, 25 years on since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Today we recognise the final day of the swimming events in the expanded Aquatic Centre.
Designed by Cox Richardson Architects, and completed in 1994, Studio.SC was engaged to expand the existing structure to maximise the seating capacity and sight lines for the Olympics and Paralympics.
Studio.SC used cutting-edge 3-dimensional visualisation and sightline analysis to unlock seating opportunities, increasing the existing venue's capacity by an additional 9000 seats. This allowed more people to witness one of the most historic sporting events in Australian history, where the Sydney International Aquatic Centre was the stage for 21 of Australia’s medal tally, taking home 6 Gold, 9 Silver and 6 Bronze medals.
The massive structure was fully repurposed, later reassembled as Wollongong North Stand, ensuring creative sustainability through renewal and repurposing.
